GigE Vision vs USB3 Vision - what's the difference?
Selection Q&A Updated
GigE Vision runs over Ethernet with ~100m reach and easy multi-camera networking; USB3 Vision offers more bandwidth (~350MB/s class) but short cables. Fixed line stations favour GigE; benchtop high-speed favours USB3.
Both are standard camera protocols supported by mainstream vision libraries. GigE Vision runs on ordinary Ethernet - up to ~100m per cable, easy switching for multi-camera setups and PoE power - hence the line default. USB3 Vision gives more bandwidth and lower latency but only a few metres of cable, so it lives on benchtops.
When bandwidth runs short: move to 2.5G/10G GigE models, crop the ROI or reduce bit depth. Send KIES your field of view, takt and camera count for a full camera-lens-lighting combination.
